The Moriah Harbour Cay National Park was established in 2002 by the Bahamas National Trust to protect the beautiful land and seascapes of Moriah Harbour Cay and its surrounding coastal habitats. In 2021, the BNT hired additional staff in Great Exuma to manage the initiatives related to Moriah Harbour.

MORIAH HARBOUR CAY NATIONAL PARK

INITIATIVES

  • HARBOUR FUND. Friends of Exuma and its donors established a Harbour Fund to support conservation initiatives in Exuma. The BNT is eligible to apply to the Harbour Fund to support efforts to protect the seagrass, coral reef, and mangrove ecosystems of Moriah Harbour Cay National Park. This will provide opportunities for park visitors to learn, enjoy, and take part in conservation.

  • ORAL HISTORY PROJECT. The Moriah Harbour Cay National Park implemented a project that will document the historical knowledge and stories of the land and seascape of the area in order to inform park education programs and contribute to preserving history.
